An engine warning light means the ECU has detected a fault in the engine or emissions system. If it is steady you can carry on carefully until a diagnosis; if it is flashing, stop the vehicle as soon as possible.
Most common causes
- Clogged DPF/FAP
- Dirty EGR valve
- AdBlue/SCR system fault
- Faulty lambda sensor
What to do right away
- Check whether the light is steady or flashing.
- Check fluid levels and the fuel cap.
- Avoid high revs.
- Have the fault codes read with a diagnostic scan.
