How to decide which ones to replace

• Return-flow test: identifies the injectors returning too much fuel
• Bench delivery test: measures the quantity injected in the different phases
• Corrections per cylinder read in diagnosis: they show which cylinder receives too much or too little

• New or reconditioned part
• Labour for removal (which can get complicated if the injector is seized in its seat)
• Seals and sealing washers, always new
• Coding of the calibration codes in the ECU: without this step the engine stays rough

The expensive case: seized injector

On high-mileage engines the injector can be seized in its seat by carbon. Extraction requires specific equipment and additional hours; in the worst cases the cylinder head has to come off. It is a risk that must be declared beforehand, not discovered once the job has started.
