The price of a remap depends on the reading method (OBD, bench or boot), on the ECU and on the development work required: very cheap offers usually mean generic files, not developed on the vehicle.
What affects the price
- Reading method: via OBD is quicker, bench or boot mode requires removal and more time
- ECU type and the protections it has
- Stage required and any mechanical modifications
- Road test and checks before and after the job
Realistic results
- On modern turbodiesels, indicative gains of 15-30% in power and torque at Stage 1
- Bigger gains in mid-range torque: that is what you feel most in everyday driving
- Fuel consumption can even drop slightly with calm driving, because less throttle is needed
What to check first
- Maintenance status: oil, filters, clutch, turbo, DPF
- No stored fault codes
- That the original file is saved so you can go back
