P0113 — Intake air temperature sensor: signal too high

Severity: Informational Can you drive? Yes, no known limitation Make: All makes (OBD-II standard)
MeaningThe ECU reads an air temperature off the top of the scale, which usually means an open circuit. The engine keeps running on a substitute value.
FamilyPowertrain (P)

Typical symptoms

Engine warning light on
Less crisp cold starting
Slightly higher consumption
Reduced power on boosted engines

Common causes

Broken wiring to the sensor
Disconnected or corroded connector
Faulty sensor
Sensor built into an oil-fouled MAF

What to do

Bridge the two connector pins: if the reading jumps to the opposite extreme, the wiring is sound and the sensor needs replacing. A two-minute test that avoids changing parts at random.
