Description

Korhex: open protected ECUs without desoldering anything

Korhex is a hardware add-on developed by Magic Motorsport for the Flex programmer. It reaches the ECU microcontroller through a single contact point, replacing the manual preparation on the bench: no resistors to desolder, no Boot pins to wire, no board to turn over. Kit code KRX01.001, on pre-order with the first shipments from 14 September 2026.

Why a protected ECU costs so much time

Anyone who works in Boot mode knows the tedious part of the job: the ECU has to be opened, the board turned over, the configuration resistors found and removed, then the necessary pins wired by hand. Only then does the software come on and the real work begin.

Every extra step is bench time nobody pays for, and above all it is risk: stressed pads, thin traces next to fine-pitch components, joints to redo at the end. On a customer's ECU, a mechanical mistake costs far more than the time lost.

Traditional Boot and Korhex compared

The difference is not in the software: it is in everything that came before the software. Here is what changes in the workflow.

How you work, in four steps

The whole flow stays inside Flex from beginning to end: Korhex slots into the access stage and does not change the way you programme.

  1. Prepare the ECU - Open the unit and set it up following the procedure Flex shows you for that model.
  2. Position Korhex - Rest the device on the indicated MCU contact point, using the dedicated template included in the kit.
  3. Run the access - Start the unlocking operation from the software: no desoldering, no pins wired by hand.
  4. Carry on in Flex - From here on you work as always: reading, writing, backup and programming with the standard procedure.

What you can do on the supported ECUs

Once access is obtained, the operations available are the full set for the matching Flex protocol.

  • Internal flash - Reading and writing the programme memory.
  • Internal EEPROM - Reading and writing the data area.
  • Full backup - A complete copy before any change, so you can always go back.
  • Boot Unlock - Unlocking the protected unit through the dedicated procedures.

Is Korhex right for you?

It is not a tool for everyone, and that is worth saying before the order, not after.

It makes sense if

  • you work regularly in Boot mode on protected ECUs;
  • you already have Flex and want the desoldering station out of the process;
  • you do volume, and repeatability matters to you more than the cost of the tool;
  • you want to handle modules you currently have to turn down or send out.

It makes little sense if

  • you do not own Flex: Korhex is not a programmer and does nothing on its own;
  • nearly all your work is over OBD and you rarely use the bench;
  • you are looking for a universal tool, independent of the Flex ecosystem.

Which configuration you need

What you have to buy depends on what is already in your workshop today.

You have Flex Full Master or Full Slave with an active subscription

You are already covered on the software side: the Korhex procedures are included in your package. You only need the hardware.

€1,990 + VAT

You have Flex, but with a partial software configuration

You can take the hardware and complete the software side: either by moving to a Full licence, or by adding the Flex Boot Glitch FLS0.20M/S licence.

€2,190 + VAT for the hardware, plus €900 + VAT for the licence

You do not have Flex yet

Three things are needed: the Flex hardware, the Korhex hardware and the software licence that makes them work together. We will put together the full package for you.

A short glossary, for anyone new to this

MCUThe microcontroller: the processor inside the ECU that runs the engine or gearbox management software.
Boot modeA microcontroller start-up mode that allows its memories to be read and rewritten when normal access is closed.
Boot GlitchA family of procedures that exploit a precise time window during MCU start-up to gain access on protected units.
Configuration resistorsThe components on the board that determine how the microcontroller starts: with the traditional method they have to be desoldered to enter Boot.
Full Master and Full SlaveThe two complete Flex configurations: Master works on its own, Slave is tied to a Master that supplies its files.

Why order it from us

  • We check your Flex licence before the order and apply the reserved terms if you are entitled to them, so you do not have to chase them afterwards.
  • Support in Italian, from people who work with these tools every day.
  • Invoice, shipping in Italy and the European Union, correct VAT treatment for EU businesses.
  • If you do not know which configuration you need, we will tell you before you spend: it often turns out to be less than it looks.

Do you need the programmer too?

Korhex is an add-on: on its own it does nothing. The programmer it relies on is Flex by Magic Motorsport.

Frequently asked questions about Korhex Magic Motorsport — Flex add-on for direct MCU access

What is Korhex?

It is a hardware add-on for the Magic Motorsport Flex programmer. It reaches the ECU microcontroller through a dedicated contact point and carries out the access and unlock procedures on supported units, without the manual preparation the traditional method requires.

Does Korhex work without the Flex?

No. It is not a stand-alone device: it is an extension built for the Flex ecosystem and it works only through the dedicated Flex software procedures. Without the Flex it does nothing.

How does it differ from traditional Boot?

The result is the same, the route is not. With traditional Boot you have to turn the board over, unsolder the configuration resistors and wire the pins by hand. With Korhex you place the device on the MCU contact point the procedure shows you, and you touch no solder at all.

So I no longer have to unsolder the resistors?

On supported procedures, no: that is exactly the problem Korhex was made to remove. Instead of unsoldering, it makes direct contact with the microcontroller.

Is Korhex an ECU programmer?

No. The programming is handled by the Flex, as always. Korhex only comes in at the stage of getting into the protected unit.

How does it reach the microcontroller?

It is placed on a specific MCU contact point, shown by the Flex procedure for that ECU model. The kit includes the positioning masks that hold the device in the right place.

Which ECUs are supported?

It depends on the ECU, on the microcontroller and on the Flex protocol. The list of supported applications grows with each software release and can be checked in the Flex Vehicle List.

Do I need a particular Flex licence?

With a Flex Full Master or Full Slave configuration the procedures are already covered by the package. With a partial configuration you also need the Flex Boot Glitch FLS0.20M/S licence.

How much does Korhex cost?

The hardware costs €1,990 excluding tax if you have Flex Full Master or Full Slave with an active subscription, and €2,190 excluding tax if you have a partial software configuration: that is the net price shown on this page. In the second case you also need the Boot Glitch FLS0.20M/S licence, which costs €900 excluding tax. The net prices are the same in every country; the tax is not, and it is worked out at checkout from the delivery country and the customer's status: for an Italian private consumer, with 22% VAT, they come to €2,427.80, €2,671.80 and €1,098.00 respectively.

Why are there two different prices?

Because in the first case the software side is already covered by your Full licence with an active subscription, while in the second it has to be completed. The page shows the higher price: if you qualify for the lower one we apply it after checking your licence.

What is the Flex Boot Glitch FLS0.20M/S licence?

It is the software licence that enables the Boot Glitch procedures on the Flex for anyone without a Full configuration. It is only needed in that case and costs €900 excluding tax: for an Italian private consumer, with 22% VAT, €1,098.00. For other countries the tax is worked out at checkout.

What is in the kit?

The Korhex device, the connector board, the MCU positioning masks, the USB cable and the power cable. Product code KRX01.001.

When does it ship?

The first shipments leave on 14 September 2026. Production is organised in scheduled batches and orders are filled in the order they were placed.

How does the pre-order work?

You order now and reserve your place in the queue. The earlier the order, the sooner it falls into a shipping batch. We will let you know when your unit goes into production.

Is the price on the page inclusive of VAT?

It depends who you are, and next to the figure it always says what it includes. To anyone who has not yet told us, we show the price for an Italian private consumer, 22% VAT included, with the net amount and the tax alongside. If you buy with a VAT number you can tick "I am a business: show me prices without VAT" and see net prices throughout the shop; if you have already declared another country, the headline price follows that regime. The final tax is worked out at checkout, from the delivery country and the customer's status.

Do you ship outside Italy?

Yes, throughout the European Union and beyond. To a private customer in the EU we apply their own country's rate (OSS scheme); to a business with an EU VAT number that checks out on the VIES register we invoice without VAT, under the reverse charge. Outside the EU the sale is not taxable, and any duties and taxes in the destination country are the recipient's responsibility. The scheme applied is stated on the order.

Will more ECUs be added over time?

Yes. Korhex is built as a platform meant to grow: new applications and new protocols arrive through updates to the Flex ecosystem.

Do I need an active Flex subscription?

For the reserved price of €1,990 excluding tax (€2,427.80 for an Italian private consumer, 22% VAT included), yes: the subscription must be active. For using the tool, what counts is the licence that enables the supported procedures: if you are unsure where you stand, we can check together before you order.
