Description

Stage 1 remapping

  The Stage 1 remapping means modifying the engine control unit to get the best out of the engine. This kind of work is normally designed for standard vehicles, with no significant hardware changes. The aim is to raise power and torque, sharpen throttle response and improve fuel efficiency too. It is a popular choice for anyone who wants better performance without changing the vehicle.   MasterTuning is a leader in the development of Stage 1 for every type of vehicle. Every remap is developed individually by the programmers at MasterTuning, according to the vehicle and to the customer's requirements. The work is carried out with equipment from Dimsport, an Italian company with many years of experience in ECU remapping software, delivering the best possible performance while always respecting the vehicle's safety margins.
What MasterTuning offers with Stage 1:
  • Files 100% tested and personalised, guaranteed;
  • Tested and developed on a 4x4 rolling road;
  • Better performance, within the safety margins;
  • Lower fuel consumption.

What a Stage 1 gains you

On a turbo diesel engine the typical increase is 20-30% in power and torque; on a turbo petrol it stays in that region, while on a naturally aspirated engine the margins are far smaller, because there is no forced induction to work with. The exact figures depend on the engine: the real value for yours is in the gains database, which collects the measured results vehicle by vehicle.

How the job is done

  1. Reading of the original software from the ECU, with Dimsport equipment
  2. Backup of the standard file, which stays on record and can be restored
  3. Individual development of the map on that one vehicle, not a generic file from a database
  4. Writing and road test

The work stays inside the safety margins set by the manufacturer: boost pressure, ignition advance, injector delivery and torque limits all remain within values the engine and the transmission can take.

Stage 1 or an add-on module?

Stage 1 rewrites the software and gives the best result. If the car is under lease o in warranty and you would rather not touch the ECU, the Rapid add-on modules work on the sensor signals and can be removed in a few minutes.

Frequently asked questions about Stage 1 remapping

How much power do you gain with Stage 1 remapping?

On turbocharged engines the typical gain is 20-30% in power and torque; on naturally aspirated engines the margins are far smaller. The exact figure depends on the engine and can be checked in the MasterTuning power gain database.

Does Stage 1 remapping void the warranty?

A change to the ECU software can be detected, so on a car under warranty the manufacturer may object to it. The original file stays on file and can be written back at any time. Anyone who does not want the ECU touched chooses a Rapid add-on module, which comes off without leaving a trace.

Does Stage 1 use more fuel?

For the same driving style, consumption tends to drop, because less pedal is needed for the same torque demand. If you use the extra power, consumption rises: it depends on how you drive.

Does anything on the engine have to be changed?

No, Stage 1 is designed for standard vehicles with no hardware changes: only the engine management software is touched.

Is remapping safe for the engine?

Development stays within the safety margins set by the manufacturer for boost pressure, timing and torque limits. The maps are developed on the individual vehicle and tested, not generic files downloaded from a database.

How long does it take?

The work is done within the day: reading the ECU, developing the file, writing it and a road test.

Can I go back to the original file?

Yes: the standard software is saved before every job and can be written back whenever needed, for example before a service or before selling the car.
