Reading codes ≠ diagnosis

• Reading codes: plug in the tool and print the codes. It says where to look, not what is broken.
• Diagnosis: reads the parameters in real time under load, runs actuator tests, measures pressures and flow rates, compares the values with the expected ones. It identifies the component responsible.

Why the code is not enough

A P0299 (turbo underboost) can be due to the variable geometry, a hose, the intercooler, the DPF or the sensor. Replacing “what the code says” means guessing at best: the cost of a wrong component far exceeds that of the diagnosis.
