How much does it cost to replace the injectors

A common rail diesel injector costs roughly €150-400 new and €80-200 reconditioned, plus labour and coding in the control unit. It is almost never necessary to change them all.

Indicative prices

ItemIndicative cost
New injector (single)€150-400
Reconditioned injector (single)€80-200
Fitting labourvaries by engine, 2 to 6 hours
Coding in the control unitincluded or €30-80
Seals and sealing washersalways new, a few tens of euros

How to decide which to replace

  • Return flow test: identifies injectors returning too much fuel
  • Bench flow test: measures the quantity injected in the different phases
  • Per-cylinder corrections read in diagnosis: show which cylinder gets too much or too little

The costly case: a seized injector

On high-mileage engines the injector can be seized in its seat by carbon. Removal needs specific equipment and extra hours; in the worst cases the cylinder head has to come off. It is a risk to declare beforehand, not discover once the work has started.

When reconditioning pays off

An injector reconditioned by a serious laboratory, with documented flow tests, costs less and works in most cases. On the more delicate piezo systems and very recent engines a new part is often the safer choice.

How MasterTuning helps

We read the real values of the control unit, not just the code: that is the difference between finding the faulty component and replacing parts by trial and error. After the repair we clear the error and check that it does not come back. Find the nearest centre or contact us.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to change an injector?

Roughly €150-400 for a new injector, €80-200 reconditioned, plus labour and coding in the control unit.

Do all injectors have to be changed together?

No: only those out of tolerance on the return and flow tests. The others, if within spec, stay.

Is coding needed after replacement?

Yes, always: each injector has calibration codes to write into the control unit, otherwise the engine runs rough.

New or reconditioned?

A reconditioned injector with documented tests costs less and works well in most cases; new is preferable on piezo systems and very recent engines.
