A forced regeneration with the diagnostic tool generally costs €60-150, professional cleaning of the removed filter €150-350, while DPF replacement starts at €600-800 and can exceed €2,000 on premium models. In most cases replacement can be avoided.
The three routes, in order of cost
- Forced regeneration: performed with the diagnostic tool when the filter is loaded with soot but not with ash. It is the cheapest solution and often sufficient.
- Professional cleaning: the filter is removed and washed with dedicated machinery. Necessary when there is too much soot for regeneration to clear it.
- Replacement: unavoidable only with a melted, cracked or ash-saturated filter (ash does not burn off).
What affects the price
- Filter position: some come out in an hour, others require removing half the exhaust line
- Additive (Eolys) to be topped up
- Need to reset parameters and adaptations in the ECU
- Original or aftermarket part
The hidden cost: not fixing the cause
If the DPF clogged because of a stuck EGR, injectors out of tolerance or too many short trips, the cleaning lasts a few months. Diagnosing the upstream causes is what makes the job definitive.
The figures given are indicative market ranges, useful as a guide: the actual cost depends on model, engine, chosen parts and labour hours. An exact quote requires the vehicle registration.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to clean the DPF?
A forced regeneration with the diagnostic tool costs roughly €60-150, professional cleaning of the removed filter €150-350. Replacement starts at €600-800.
Is it better to clean or replace the DPF?
Cleaning is almost always the better option: replacement only makes sense with a melted, cracked or ash-saturated filter.
How often should the particulate filter be cleaned?
There is no fixed interval: it depends on use. With mainly urban driving it loads up much faster.
