Changing the clutch costs roughly €400-1,200 for kit and labour, rising to €800-2,200 if the dual-mass flywheel also has to be replaced. The price depends on the model and how complex the strip-down is.
Indicative prices
| Work | Indicative cost |
|---|---|
| Clutch kit + labour (small car) | €400-700 |
| Clutch kit + labour (saloon, SUV) | €600-1,200 |
| Kit with dual-mass flywheel | €800-2,200 |
| Automatic / dual-clutch gearbox | on quote, often over €1,500 |
Signs of a worn clutch
- Revs rise without the car accelerating (slipping)
- Pedal hard, soft or with abnormal travel
- Burning smell uphill or under load
- Difficulty engaging gears
- Vibration or noise on release
What is replaced
The kit includes the disc, pressure plate and release bearing. If the flywheel is dual-mass it has to be checked: it costs more but, if worn, ruins the new clutch. The job often includes the gearbox oil seal.
How long it lasts
Between 80,000 and 200,000 km depending on use and driving style: traffic, hill starts, towing and sporty driving wear it sooner.
How to make it last
- Do not rest your foot on the pedal
- Avoid abrupt starts and high revs on the clutch
- Use the handbrake on hills, not the clutch
- Have the first slips checked early
How MasterTuning helps
We read the real values of the control unit, not just the code: that is the difference between finding the faulty component and replacing parts by trial and error. After the repair we clear the error and check that it does not come back. Find the nearest centre or contact us.
