How much does it cost to repair the AdBlue system

AdBlue system repairs range from €150-400 for a NOx sensor or an injector, to €600-1,500 for the complete dosing pump, up to over €2,000 for the SCR catalyst. The diagnosis decides which of the three.

The most frequent repairs, in order of cost

  • NOx sensor: the component that gives up most often. Modest cost compared with the rest.
  • Crystallised AdBlue injector: sometimes recovered by cleaning, otherwise replaced.
  • Blocked filter or line: inexpensive work, often underestimated.
  • Dosing pump: the major item.
  • SCR catalyst: rare, but the highest item.

Why not wait for the last start

The system warns you with a countdown of remaining starts. When it reaches zero the engine will not restart: the repair costs the same, but you add the tow truck and the downtime. Acting at the first messages does not save on the part, it saves on everything around it.

Prevention that works

  • Use compliant AdBlue and do not store it for months
  • Do not top up with containers used for something else
  • Drive journeys long enough for the system to work at temperature

Software deactivation of the SCR system is not permitted on the road: it only concerns off-road, competition or export vehicles.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to repair the AdBlue system?

From €150-400 for a NOx sensor or an injector, to €600-1,500 for the dosing pump. The SCR catalyst exceeds €2,000.

What breaks most often in the AdBlue system?

The downstream NOx sensor and the crystallised injector are by far the most frequent faults.

What happens when the starts run out?

The engine will not restart until the system is repaired and the fault cleared with the diagnostic tool: the cost of towing is added to the cost of the part.
